Location & Setting

Lower Sabie rests on the banks of the Sabie River in Kruger’s southeastern region, within easy reach of Crocodile Bridge and Malelane Gates. The river draws a steady procession of wildlife to drink, especially during dry months, while mature riverine trees attract diverse birdlife. Scenic tar routes follow the river toward Skukuza, and gravel loops explore open savanna and thickets to the south and east. The camp’s elevated deck faces the water, making it a favorite for sunset views and casual game watching between drives.

Rooms

Accommodation covers the full SANParks spectrum: campsites, huts, bungalows, safari tents, family cottages and a guest house. Units vary in layout and self-catering facilities; most tourist units offer private bathrooms, and many are air-conditioned or fan-cooled. On African Sky itineraries, we select comfortable, en-suite units well located inside camp for easy access to the riverfront and departure points for guided activities. Families often opt for larger cottages, while couples prefer bungalows near the perimeter or river outlooks.

Facilities

Facilities include a licensed restaurant with a river-facing deck, curio shop, fuel station, swimming pool, laundromat and reception services, with communal kitchens and ablutions for non-en-suite options. SANParks guided activities—sunrise, sunset and night drives plus bush walks—are bookable in camp, and the riverside setting is ideal for birding. While Wi-Fi is typically limited to public/restaurant areas and can be intermittent, the camp’s practical amenities and location make it a convenient, family-friendly base for classic Kruger safaris.
