Spend your days unwinding on blue flag beaches while staying in one of South Africa's top hotels.
After clearing customs and immigration at OR Tambo International, you’ll find a representative from African Sky waiting for you. After taking care of formalities, you’ll be escorted to the appropriate departure terminal where you’ll board a local flight to Durban on South Africa’s east coast . On arrival, you’ll be transferred to your luxury seaside accommodation, just 20km or 12 miles from the airport. The Oyster Box dates back to the colonial year of 1863. The original Oyster Lodge was constructed as a navigational beacon, located just 70km or 40 miles south of the Tugela River, beyond which lay a troublesome Zulu nation under King Mpande kaSenzangakhona, half-brother of Shaka and Dingane. In subsequent generations, the building fell into disuse, until in 1952 the property was purchased by Ken and Kay O’Connor. First, they opened a tea garden, then a restaurant, and finally the Oyster Box Hotel in 1954. The Tollman family purchased the property in 2006 and renovated it to its present status as one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most desirable beachfront accommodations.
Your personal propensities are well catered for at the Oyster Box. Under the guidance of executive Chef Kevin Joseph, the Grill Room will satisfy your culinary desires. Those so-inclined might indulge in afternoon High Tea in the Palm Court under ceramic chandeliers purchased from the Savoy Hotel in London. Their Oyster, Lighthouse and Chukka bars offer spectacular interiors, incredible views, delectable cocktails, live music, and superb menus. If you’re not lounging at the pool or on the beach, indulge yourself in what is probably the best spa on Durban’s coast. Catch a movie at the cinema. Work out in their 24-hr fully-equipped gym.
