The Resort
Azura sits on Benguerra Island, the second-largest isle in the Bazaruto Archipelago and protected since 1971 as part of Bazaruto Marine National Park. Expect sweeping beaches, shifting sandbars and calm, turquoise shallows frequented by turtles and dolphins, with the archipelago notable for hosting the last viable dugong population in the Western Indian Ocean. Guests typically fly to Vilanculos, then take a short helicopter transfer to Benguerra’s helipad, arriving within minutes of the resort. The setting balances true remoteness with easy access for seamless bush-and-beach combinations.
Rooms
Twenty thatched villas line the beach, combining rustic textures with contemporary comforts. Categories range from Beach and Luxury Beach Villas to larger Infinity and Royal Beach Villas, plus Villa Amizade and a three-bedroom Presidential Villa for families or friends. Every villa includes air-conditioning, a private plunge pool, beach sala and deck, indoor and outdoor showers, and a personal Mozambican host. Interiors emphasize airy, free-flowing spaces and ocean views, creating a private, slow-paced base for couples, honeymooners and small groups.
Facilities
Central areas include relaxed dining (beach dinners, Jelly Fish Restaurant and wine cellar) and access to the Peri-Peri Beach Club about 1 km down the shore. A watersports hub provides snorkelling gear, kayaks and paddleboards, with options for sailing, dhow cruises and deep-sea charters. The spa offers treatments using African botanicals, and Wi-Fi is available. Private picnics can be arranged on Bazaruto Island or North Point, while the helipad and regular Vilanculos air links keep arrivals simple.
