Reasons to Visit Zimbabwe

1

Victoria Falls

Though mired in political turmoil and economic crises for many years, Zimbabwe's tourism hot spots remain consistently popular, particularly Victoria Falls. Seasoned travelers consider the views from the Zimbabwean flank of the Zambezi River to be superior, as a more panoramic view of the Falls is visible from this angle.

2

Authentic Wilderness

Wilderness areas like Mana Pools and Hwange National Park are barely touched by development and yet established enough to provide luxury safari experiences that capture the imagination of those who dream of traveling to Africa. The results are authentic safaris over breathtakingly wild landscapes, with guests wanting for naught.

3

Activities

Adrenalin rush activities are plentiful in Zimbabwe, notably around Victoria Falls. Bungee jump from the Victoria Falls Bridge, swing for 95m across a gorge 120m high, observe the Falls from a helicopter, brave the Batoka Gorge on a white water rafting expedition, hurtle along the world's longest zip-line, ride atop an elephant - the opportunities are exhilarating.

4

Affordable

The hotels and lodges may not be considered 'cheap' by most standards, but they tend to be more affordable than the pricey palaces of Zambia and Botswana, where mid-range is rarely an option. All these countries typically charge in US Dollars for their accommodations and activities, so they tend to be pricier to visit than Namibia and South Africa.

Experiences to be Savored when traveling in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe experiences are largely oriented around adventures - from the leisurely and immersive to the hair-raising and unforgettable. Bewitching wildlife and enchanting natural scenery are standard across the board.

Bungee Jumping

The famous Victoria Falls bungee jump occurs on the Victoria Falls Bridge that straddles the Zambezi River between the countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. The plunge is 111 meters (364 feet) into the Batoka Gorge - a hair-raising adrenalin rush! Bridge sliding and historic bridge tours are also available and offer similarly impressive views.

A view of the Falls

Although you can get closer to the face of Victoria Falls from the Knife-Edge Bridge in Zambia, three-quarters of the Falls lie within Zimbabwe. The 'Main Falls' offers the ideal vantage point if you visit during the dry season, as water will still flow over the rim. Many visitors, therefore, consider the Zimbabwean side superior.

Elephant Encounters

An intimate meeting with the world's largest land mammal is always unforgettable. In the Victoria Falls area in Zimbabwe, you can ride atop these precious pachyderms through protected wilderness areas or encounter them up close on an educational visit. Such wildlife experiences are intrinsically memorable.

Zimbabwe, named after the pre-colonial Great Zimbabwe City that once stood in the country's southeast, is a rich safari and wildlife haven. From Victoria Falls in the north to the Highlands in the east, from Hwange National Park is in the far west, to South Gonarezhou National Park in the south, Zimbabwe is blessed with a pristine wilderness that have escaped the clutches of civilization.

Like its neighbors, Zimbabwe has managed to conserve astonishing natural beauty to this day, with an ample variety of unique places and experiences for avid travelers to explore on tour here. Victoria Falls is on most bucket lists, and the Zimbabwean side is a fine choice for enjoying this natural world wonder. The Mana Pools, a dry season refuge for migrating wildlife, is another impressive destination and UNESCO World Heritage site. It is the only place in the world where elephants regularly stand on their hind legs.

Lake Kariba, on the northern border with Zambia, is the largest dam in the world and a favorite vacation spot for water-sport enthusiasts. Just a few hundred kilometers south is Hwange National Park, another mega-park on the border with Botswana. Here, the Big five and other large game are not just present but abundant, offering a breathtaking sight for wildlife enthusiasts.

The country is roughly divided into the Shona and their sister cultures and the Matabele and their sister cultures, with great cultural complexity in their practices and art to discover. The country's north is mostly Shona-speaking, while the south has a greater concentration of Ndebele speakers.

The Manica Highlands in the east bordering Mozambique, are a world of their own. Lush, rolling hills with orchards and tea-plantations cover the landscape, along with beautiful indigenous forests and flora, waterfalls and rocky clifftops. The Eastern Highlands, though remote, are a paradise for the adventurous traveler, offering a thrilling experience amidst nature's beauty.
