Experiences to be Savored

While the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve is renowned for its prolific Big Five game viewing experience, there is much more to savor here – from the tranquility of early mornings in the bush to some of Africa's most breathtaking sunsets.

Sundowner Drinks

Shortly before sunset on your afternoon game drive, the ranger will choose a scenic spot from where to appreciate the sun setting over the wilderness of Africa. Savoring this experience with your favorite drink will surely be a highlight of the day's safari.

Bush Picnics

A Bush picnic is an excellent way of enjoying quiet time in the bush, savoring the scenery while enjoying well-prepared snacks and the excitement of potential animal sightings.

The Sabi Sands are one of a few private game reserves on the western border of the Kruger National Park. A rich history of conservation and luxury safari and tourism exists here, with a number of highly secluded and opulent lodges to choose from. Among the lodge owners here are big name wealthy individuals, with the aesthetic and comforts to match.

The Sabi Sands name comes from the Sabi River and the Sand River, both of which perenially flow through the reserve, with great herds of buffalo and elephants among the other big five attracted to their waters. A safari trip to one of the reserve’s dozen or so lodges is almost gauranteed to deliver sightings of every single one of the big five, along with a host of other mammal and bird species.

The border with the Kruger National Park is unfenced, and so animals come and go as they please throughout the year. Conservation efforts in the Sabi Sands started in the late 19th century when a number of environmentally conscious farm owners decided to make an effort to preserve the natural beauty they had grown up knowing and loving. This cooperative spirit remains part of the culture within the Sabi Sands to this day, with lodge staff regularly tracking animals and sharing their location with those of other camps, making sure each guest gets the best experience possible during their stay.
