Punda Maria sits on a ridge in Kruger’s far north, close to the Punda Maria Gate and within a distinctive sandveld biome dotted with baobabs and tall woodland. The area’s quieter roads and varied topography lead toward the Luvuvhu Valley and the park’s northernmost viewpoints. In camp, a bird hide overlooks regular visitors, while the short Paradise Flycatcher Walk threads through shaded vegetation. Though remote from southern hubs, tar and gravel routes make day drives to river confluences and northern bridges straightforward for prepared travelers.

Accommodation centers on self-catering SANParks units suited to couples, families and small groups. Options typically include one- and two-bedroom bungalows with private bathrooms and kitchenettes or access to communal kitchens, permanent safari tents for a closer-to-nature feel, and an exclusive-use guest house near the camp perimeter. Layouts vary, but all prioritize practical comfort, braai facilities and shade. On hosted itineraries, well-located units are selected to balance proximity to the hide and amenities with easy early-morning departures for guided activities.

Facilities include a small, licensed restaurant, curio/convenience shop for basics, a residents-only swimming pool, communal kitchens and ablutions for non-en-suite options, and reception services that arrange SANParks-guided drives and walks. The in-camp bird hide and short nature trail add relaxed viewing between activities. Connectivity can be limited; plan for intermittent mobile data and no camp-wide Wi-Fi.
