Skukuza Rest Camp

National Park Camps | Kruger National Park | South Africa Skukuza is the main camp of the Kruger Park. It is located on the southern banks of the Sabie River. The camp is named after James Stevenson-Hamilton, who was the park's first warden. "Skukuza" is a Tsonga name, meaning "he who sweeps clean."

The camp is home to the Stevenson-Hamilton Memorial Museum, which has many fascinating artifacts, the most renowned of which is the knife that ranger Harry Wolhuter used to kill a lion and save his own life.

Location & Setting

Skukuza is easily accessible from the Paul Kruger Gate and from the airport only a few kilometers away. The camp is the largest rest camp in Kruger Park, with a splendid setting on the banks of the Sabie River. The Big Five can be spotted near the camp with its ancient jackalberry, sycamore fig, and natal mahogany trees that provide shade against hot summer days.

Various accommodation options are available, from campsites and tents to luxury bungalows, cottages, and guest houses.
