From: POAThe small camp adjacent to Chiefs Island has a long history of providing traditional safaris in one of the world's most untouched conservation areas. It is built in a thicket of giant mangosteen and fig trees and has views across a floodplain. From Mombo 45, 000 hectares of exclusive private wilderness is explored.
Mombo Camp's accommodations have been described as canvas 'pavilions' that melt into the background of the bush, becoming one with the surroundings. The tents are raised off the ground and connected by wooden walkways. Solid wood-paneled doors lead into beautifully designed rooms with private balconies. Each room has an en suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, a huge four-poster bed, and a seating area. The veranda is connected to a walkway that takes you out over the flood plains to your private sala, where you can enjoy a lazy afternoon listening to the sounds of the bush.
Dining at Mombo Camp is always an occasion. The dining area has a vast eucalyptus table with director's chairs. Meals are served al fresco, and the head chef is well-known for serving fresh seafood dishes in the middle of a landlocked country. The living room, with its comfortable leather sofas, overlooks the plains. The lounge leads into the bar that extends into the camp's library. The camp's pool is completely hidden from the main area, a perfect place to be revitalized after a safari activity.
