The Sabie Game Reserve, now part of the Sabi Sands, has been at the forefront of conservation efforts in South Africa for well over a century, a rich history that still grounds the overarching goals of the lodges located in the reserve. Big 5 sightings are almost guaranteed here, as are spectacular sunsets and sunrises over the surrounding African savanna.
The lodge is a peek into what the Sabi Sands Game Reserve has to offer, with eight suites and three standard rooms available. Suites have their own private viewing deck and en-suite outdoor shower facilities, along with fine finishings and comfortable furniture. Two of the three standard rooms are connected, making them ideal for families while simultaneously allowing for enough privacy with doors between the shared passages.
Among the many facilities at Umkumbe Safari Lodge are a swimming pool accessible from the main deck and overlooking the adjacent river, an outdoor barbecueing area known as a boma, a basic gym and a lounge area with a snooker table. The spa offers a number of treatments that need to be pre-booked, and the deck area is furnished with comfortable chairs from which to enjoy a drink from the bar on a warm afternoon.
