Franschhoek is steeped in history and has the distinction of being settled by French Huguenots during the latter part of the 18th century. These settlers brought their knowledge of wine-making from their home country, and many of the estates in the area were named after places in France.
Stellenbosch is only a drive about forty minutes from Franschhoek, and it is easy and convenient to combine some of the most notable wine estates surrounding the town while residing in Franschhoek.
